Welcome to the Philippines or Bust Blog

7

Rich_Neneng

Hello,

Glad you found my space on the net. I will be keeping this blog to help myself with the daunting task of planning and implementing my retirement to the Philippines. I hope that the information I find along the way will be helpful to you (the readers) as well. The blog will cover topics ranging from Cultural differences, Discovering where in the Philippines you would like to live, Learning to live within the local community, to finding an exact location and building a house, to saving your retirement fund to actually making the move.

This is not something that many do on whim (obviously), unless you are already at the retirement age and have your finances in order, if for that select few hopefully we will have some relevant information. This site is mainly geared toward the individual / family that is thinking of making the move there “someday” . Our family has already made that commitment and are well on our way to making it a reality. I’m doing the research daily and speaking with many that we know in the Philippines to help us with the decisions that we have to make to get this done.

I hope that you visit often and see what content we add to the site. We will have guest authors that will write on particular topics that they are “experts” in. So it won’t just be my constant rambling on :) I will not try to be a one stop shop for all your Philippine information, thus, I will often point you to the horse’s mouth (figure of speech).

I encourage you all to sign up for email updates as to when new topics are posted to the site. In the upper right hand corner of the page there is a box labeled ENews and Updates. Simply put your email address in and the system will send you out a email notifying you when new content is added. Seeing how this is not a overnight process (the move to the Philippines), I’m sure there will be times when the site goes un-updated for days. In the beginning I have many topics to cover lets see how long I can keep it going.

Please feel free to comment on anything and get involved via the comments section. I can not think of every topic. If there is something you would like to know or have particular information that you think would be useful to me or the other readers of the site, please let us know.

If you would like to be a author on this website let me know, the more people we have collaborating on the information contained within, the more people and ourselves we can help.

    Rich,

As I know, when I first started my site, everything was new and lots to write about. Once your here for a while, I have been here 20 months, there are times I do not know what to write about.
If your looking to make money with this, good luck. I can’t

Totally Understandable, I’m sure thats why others have multiple authors per site. I guess we are going to find out how creative I am. I have a list of about 30 articles to start with, I’ll try to do 1 per day to start to build up the content.

    Hello Rich and Vanessa,

Rich I see you have such a supportive wife..Vanessa said “I know you get lazy at times”…lol. I see you two have a great relationship, and it shows through here. I for one look forward to upcoming articles, and maybe Vanessa has a few articles about living in the Philippines too.
Are you planning any businesses to keep yourself busy, or are you in a situation where you won’t need the extra income? I am always curious about different business ventures, and seeing how successful they may be there in Philippines.
When I do get to Philippines, at first I will help to grow my in-laws family business more. Which is wholesale/retail sale of vegetable and fruits as various dry markets around Maasin City, Southern Leyte, as well as supplying local restaurants in the Maasin City area. We will concentrate on this at the beginning, then later I hope to look into some other possibilities.
Leaning toward the tourism aspect of things, is what I hope to get into, but won’t know for sure till I get there, and see for myself.
Believe me, not looking to make millions of dollars in Philippines, would be nice if that happens, but just want a nice comfortable life there with my family.

    ingatz, and salamat kaayo,
    Danny :)

    Danny,

Vanessa does plan on giving her guest articles regarding moving back to the Philippines, you know the whole take her back to the farm after shes been to the promise land :)

I got a great ideal last night for something that will keep me very buys in Davao/Mindano/Maybe the whole country, dont want to let it out just yet seeing how I’m pretty far from getting there :(

Oh ya and shes does get lazy! :) although that’s about the worst insult you can give a Filipina, but everyone does at times. Oh and my goodness, I think she now types faster than I do, damn blogging!

    Danny,

That’s a good business, food/supply industry. My brother is into buy and sell business right now. College graduate but never put into good use ever since. I’m glad he is supporting himself now rather than being a bum around my parents house. I’m hoping the same for my brother, expand his little business venture.

Hubby ask me to write about living in the Philippines since i was born and raised there. At the moment i can only speak about my experiences prior to moving here in the US 8yrs ago. I will definitely write again when i’m already there. Different situation coming from here and different perspective too. One of these days i will post about my thoughts on “planning to retire” there, back to my mother land.

    Welcome here Danny.
