DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said there is no need to impose a gun ban in line with the celebration of the city’s Pasko Fiesta 2012.

Speaking in her weekly press briefing at her office Monday, Duterte-Carpio said she sees no compelling reasons to implement gun ban in the city for next month since the four official events will happen in six consecutive days.

A YOUTH group welcomed the approval of the resolution of the Davao City Council that sought to relocate military detachments away from civilian communities and its outlying villages.

“We commend Councilors Leah Librado-Yap and Jimmy Dureza for addressing such concern through this legislation. The SP (City Council) Resolution that Librado authored and supported by Dureza was truly an urgent necessity because militarization of civilian communities is detrimental to the security and safety of the residents, especially on the holistic development of the children and the youth,” Niel Brene Lopez, regional coordinator of Kabataan Partylist, said in a statement.

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Davao presented Monday before the Regional Trial Court one of the two “Ambrosio Brothers,” claimed to be notorious drug pushers, following the suspect’s arrest on November 10.

One of the agents of PDEA, who refused to be named, identified the suspect as Marconi Lim Ambrosio, 39, of Lim Street, Toril, Davao City.

THE Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) clarified Monday that the upcoming conference on artisanal and small-scale mining, slated on November 15-16, is not open to large-scale mining companies.

Layer Faye Risonar-Bello, assistant to the president for research on Monday’s Kapehan sa SM City Davao, said AdDU as an educational institution has the prerogative to conduct whatever forums it deems necessary in fulfilling its responsibility as an educational institution.

Ildefonso Halasan, later identified as a senior police officer 3 and a member of the Davao City Public Safety Company based in Camp Domingo Leonor, insisted on being in the restricted area of the billiard tournament around 6:30 p.m. while the finals for the national open was ongoing.

ROBBERS ransacked a house in GSIS Matina Sunday evening, carting away some P150,000 worth of items.

PO3 Roman Agor of Talomo Police Station said the victim was identified as Rody Agustin Lucero, 65, a businessman and resident of Solar Street, GSIS Heights.

In his report, Agor said Lucero left his house for a personal business transaction. When Lucero returned home, he discovered that the front door was already opened. He checked his room and discovered that a locked drawer was also forcibly opened.

TACURONG CITY — A notorious criminal involved in several crimes, including homicide and robbery, was killed by local authorities here in an encounter on Sunday afternoon.

The killed suspect was identified as Danilo “Neneng” Estorba, who had been hiding from the police for the different charges that were filed against him, with a total of P150,000 bounty on his.

Police Regional Office-Soccsksargen Director Alex Paul Monteagudo said the intelligence operatives of the Southern Cotabato Police Provincial Office sighted Estorba at Purok Pagasa, Barangay Sampao in Lutayan.
