My wife and I love Indian (and Pakistani) food but as far as we knew there were no Indian restaurants in Iloilo City where we live.  When we were planning on visiting Boracay, a friend of ours told us to be sure to dine at  Crafty’s Rooftop Restaurant .  What a good …

This is a photo narrative of our trip to Boracay Island.  We traveled there from our home in Iloilo City by car.  First, a confession.  Although we have lived in Iloilo for three years, although we have explored many…

My wife and I love Indian (and Pakistani) food but as far as we knew there were no Indian restaurants in Iloilo City.  When we were planning on visiting Boracay, a friend of ours told us to be sure to dine at Crafty’s Rooftop Restaurant in Boracay.  What a good recommendation it was! We did so and were not disappointed.  Crafty’s had a tandoori oven which produced nan as good as we had in Montreal or New York.  Unfortunately the oven was not always fired Sikh Temple, Iloilo City (and food store too!) up, so nan was not always available.  We tried the whole wheat chappatis as a substitute and they too were excellent.  Actually everything was good.  We met the Pakistani chef, Vincent, and asked him where he buys the…

Phone 036-278-96-16. We did not stay here on this trip, but wanted to check it out for future reference.  The hotel has beautiful views of the surrounding rice fields. It’s a very convenient location for those traveling from Iloilo to Boracay who get a late start or don’t want do do the trip in one day.

Digital photo narrative of our visit to Pandan, Antique Province, Philippines including information on natural and heritage sites, beaches, hiking, festivals, accommodations, hotels, resorts and dining. Our next stop is Pandan, Antique (222KM).  Pandan is one of those communities which has reached the realization that the protection and publicizing of its natural resources and maintaining its attractiveness is a good development strategy.  There’s a municipal tourism office in the middle of town.  We did not get to visit Malumpati Cold Spring Resort .  It appears to be a municipally-owned swimming hole mainly intended for day use, although there may be a cottage available.  You should be able …

White Beach – Boracay, Philippines We’re back from our first visit to Boracay. While we’ll have a complete account of our trip there , we can’t help comparing Boracay to Cebu City/Mactan Island as destinations for the foreign tourist seeking a beach resort. To our mind, Boracay wins hands down. We are speaking from personal knowledge of both places. We lived in Cebu City for months and really like it. We’ve stayed at Maribago Bluewater Resort on Mactan. Mactan and Boracay have two things in common. The foreign tourist can fly in and go more or less directly to a beach resort without having to experience practically any of the inconveniences of travel in the “real” Philippines. This is unlike other places like Bantayan Island or Malpascua which involve the rigors of real travel in the Philippines, for better and for worse. Mactan Island Resort, Cebu, Philippines Here’s what we like better about Boracay: Even through Boracay is a major international beach resort destination with hordes of tourists, the people you come in contact with there, residents, workers alike, sunglass vendors and all the rest there are so pleasant, …

Yesterday, we stopped by the Western Visayas Tourism Center on Bonifacio Drive in Iloilo City to pick up some information for an upcoming trip to Boracay.  There are two ways to get from Iloilo City to Boracay by road.  The first is through the center of Panay Island passing through Passi City and Kalibo.  The roads are reported …
